GRIFFITH OBSERVATORY

This has to be one of the best places in Los Angeles! It's my absolute favorite. The grounds are beautiful, the Art Deco style and architecture is phenomenal, and the views, well they're awesome of course! Kevin had an awesome idea to watch the sunrise there. I love everything about this place. There are trails, picnic tables, Greek Theater, and grassy areas. That morning there were a good number of people jogging up, a group of elderly men setting up their chess board on a picnic table, and a group doing yoga in the front of the observatory.

Going in the morning was a great experience. There's plenty of parking and no where near the type of crowds you find later in the day. It felt like we had the place to ourselves. There were only a handful of people and photographers on the grounds and terrace. The observatory itself doesn't open until noon Tuesday though Friday (10am - 10pm on Saturday and Sunday). Being there so early, we didn't have a chance to go inside this time around. Inside there's a Tesla Coil (my favorite) and different exhibits of tides, and eclipses, stars, a pendulum and more. You can also go on the roof and look at their telescopes. In the evenings you can see Jupiter and its moons!
