MAKE YOUR OWN SNAPCHAT FILTER

Casa de Garcia-Make Your Own Snapchat Geofilter

Did you know you can make your own Snapchat geofilter? These are perfect for weddings, baby showers, birthdays, or other parties. You can create one for as little as $5 a day. I'll show you an example of a filter I created. Geofilters have been around for a while now. I really wish I had done it for our wedding in August, but it was I was super busy with everything else that I didn't get a chance.

1. Create Your Design
First, you'll need to create your design. When creating your filter you need to consider the following:

  • 1080 x 1920 pixels
  • PNG format, transparent background
  • Under 500KBt, PNG image. You can find more guidelines here.

2. Upload Your Filter
Once you have your design login to your account and create an On-Demand filter.

3. Set Your Time Frame
Select a start and end date for your filter. You can also set it by time. The cost varies by the number of days you select. The longer you run your ad the more you'll pay.

4. Set Your Location
Enter a location, landmark or address. Use the tool to draw a fence around the area.  Snapchat requires the "geofence" to be at least 20,000 square feet. It took me a few times to get the sizing right.

Once you get the right size you'll get an idea of the cost. The cost depends on the size and the number of days you're running your filter.  If you stick around the 20,000 mark for one day you'll just pay $5.

5. Pay For Your Filter
Enter your payment information and you're good to go! Once you place your order Snapchat will review your geofilter. You'll get an email once it's ready to use and another one when your time is up.
6. Review Your Stats
After your geofilter has run you can see how it performed. Log in to Snapchat and click on Insights. Here you'll be able to see how many people viewed and used your filter.
